| Community | Date-of-birth range, both dates inclusive |
|---|---|
| UR / EWS | 2 July 1993 to 1 July 2006 |
| OBC-NCL | 2 July 1990 to 1 July 2006 |
| SC / ST | 2 July 1988 to 1 July 2006 |
The OBC-NCL and SC/ST ranges above include the respective 3-year and 5-year community relaxations. Paragraph 8.3 covers other eligible groups, including Ex-Servicemen, serving Railway staff and PwBD candidates. Relaxations depend on the applicable conditions and supporting certificates; the notification specifies that multiple concessions are not simply added together.
Revised PwBD Suitability: 10 August 2026
The official corrigendum expands the suitability categories to OA, OL, cerebral palsy (CP), dwarfism (Dw), acid attack victims (AAV), spinal deformity and spinal injury without neurological/limb dysfunction; mild autism spectrum disorder [ASD (M)]; and multiple disabilities involving the listed categories. Read the corrigendum with Annexures A and B. The notice states that other conditions remain unchanged.
Application Fee and Refund
| Applicant group | Fee | Refund condition |
|---|---|---|
| Candidates outside the concession groups | ₹500 | ₹400, less applicable bank charges, after appearing in CBT |
| Female / transgender / Ex-Servicemen / SC / ST / minority communities / EBC / PwBD | ₹250 | ₹250, less applicable bank charges, after appearing in CBT |
EBC, EWS and OBC are different categories. EBC fee concession is not the same as reservation. The original application process accepted online payment through internet banking, debit/credit cards or UPI. Fee refunds are governed by paragraph 10.3 and the bank-account requirements stated there.
Medical Standard and Selection
The notified standard is A-2. For candidates in general, the CEN specifies distant vision of 6/9 in each eye and near vision Sn 0.6 in each eye without glasses, together with the prescribed vision tests. Separate provisions apply to Ex-Servicemen. The CEN excludes candidates who have undergone LASIK or another surgical procedure to correct refractive error. The Railway medical examination determines fitness.
- CBT: 100 objective questions in 120 minutes, with one-third mark deducted for each incorrect answer.
- CBAT: shortlisted candidates must qualify every test battery. An original vision certificate in the applicable notified format is required.
- Final merit: 70% CBT and 30% CBAT weightage among candidates who qualify CBAT.
- Appointment also depends on document checks, medical fitness and the other notified verification requirements.
