Mission Vatsalya, formerly the Child Protection Services / Integrated Child Protection Scheme, is implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to ensure a healthy and happy childhood for every child in India. It promotes family-based, non-institutional care for children in difficult circumstances and strengthens the statutory framework under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
Key Features & Objectives

Child Protection focus. Provides care, protection, development and rehabilitation for children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law.

Institutional & non-institutional care. Supports Child Care Institutions, foster care, sponsorship, adoption and aftercare for children leaving institutions at 18.

Statutory structures. Strengthens Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs), District Child Protection Units and Special Juvenile Police Units.

Mission Vatsalya helpline. Operates a 24x7 emergency outreach service for children in distress through the national Child Helpline (1098).

Convergence. Works in convergence with Mission Shakti, Mission Poshan 2.0 and other welfare programmes for holistic child development.
