Overview

The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to promote apprenticeship training in the country and to incentivise employers to engage apprentices. Under the scheme, the government provides financial support by sharing a part of the stipend (25% of the prescribed stipend, subject to a ceiling) paid to apprentices, along with support for basic training costs in certain cases. NAPS aims to enhance the employability of youth by providing them with practical, on-the-job training and to bridge the gap between industry requirements and skill availability.
