📌 Why It Matters

PM-KUSUM links renewable energy with farmer welfare — reducing diesel use, giving energy security for irrigation and letting farmers earn by selling surplus solar power. A key environment + agriculture crossover topic.

PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) was launched in 2019 by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. It aims to provide energy security to farmers and promote solar energy in the agriculture sector by installing solar pumps and grid-connected solar power plants.

🎯 Key Objectives

  • Provide energy and water security to farmers.
  • De-dieselise the farm sector and reduce dependence on the grid.
  • Allow farmers to generate additional income by selling surplus solar power.
  • Increase India’s installed solar capacity in line with renewable-energy goals.
