Overview

Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) was launched in December 2014 under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying for the development and conservation of indigenous bovine (cattle and buffalo) breeds. The mission aims to enhance milk production and productivity of indigenous breeds in a scientific and holistic manner, and to improve the genetic makeup of the bovine population. It supports the establishment of integrated cattle development centres called “Gokul Grams”, promotes high genetic-merit bulls, and uses modern technologies such as sex-sorted semen and IVF to improve breeds.
