RPSC RAS Salary 2026: Pay Scale, Allowances & Promotion Path
Understand the probation remuneration, RAS pay matrix levels, factors behind take-home pay and the service’s promotion scales.
The Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) is a state civil service recruited through the RPSC Rajasthan State and Subordinate Services Combined Competitive Examination. Its compensation is set under Rajasthan government service and pay rules. A post’s pay-matrix level is the starting point for basic pay; it is not the same as gross salary or in-hand salary.
RAS Salary at a Glance
| Stage / scale | Pay level | First cell basic pay* |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary / Junior Scale | L-14 | ₹56,100 |

Pay During the Probation Period
A direct-recruit RAS officer is appointed as a probationer-trainee. The RAS Rules provide a two-year probation period, subject to the applicable training, examination and confirmation conditions. Rajasthan Finance Department’s published fixed-remuneration schedule lists ₹39,300 per month for L-14 during probation. This fixed amount is separate from regular basic pay and allowances; use the government order in force at the time of appointment for the final applicable amount.
What Affects RAS In-Hand Salary?
There is no single take-home figure for every RAS officer. Gross pay may include admissible Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other benefits under current Rajasthan rules. The amount can change with the city or posting, accommodation eligibility, pay cell, service stage and government orders. Net pay is then affected by applicable deductions and recoveries.
- Basic pay: determined by pay level, cell, increment and pay fixation.
- Allowances: DA, HRA and other admissible components depend on current rules and individual circumstances.
- Deductions: pension contributions, insurance, tax and other applicable deductions change net pay.
- Facilities: government accommodation, official travel and other service facilities depend on eligibility and posting; they should not be added as guaranteed cash salary.
RAS Promotion and Career Progression
RAS career progression is commonly described through the ordinary/junior, senior, selection, super-time and higher super-time scales shown above. Appointment to senior scales is made against vacancies under the service rules through the prescribed selection process. The rules refer to consideration on merit and seniority-cum-merit, including assessment of service records. Therefore, the scale sequence is a career framework, not a promise of automatic promotion after a fixed number of years.
Across a career, RAS officers may be entrusted with administrative responsibilities in district, divisional and state-level departments. Assignments can include field administration and senior departmental roles, depending on cadre post, experience, vacancies and government orders. The exact designation is not guaranteed by a pay-level change alone.
Can a RAS Officer Be Promoted to the IAS?
Eligible State Civil Service officers may be considered for appointment to the IAS through the separate promotion and selection process under the applicable IAS regulations. This is a distinct, vacancy-based selection involving prescribed qualifying service, assessment and approvals; it is not an automatic step in every RAS officer’s career.
What Promotion Depends On
- Eligibility and qualifying service under the current service rules.
- Vacancies and cadre requirements in the relevant scale or post.
- Seniority, merit, service record and departmental promotion committee recommendations.
- Successful completion of probation, training or other required conditions, where applicable.
For the exact entitlement in a particular case, refer to the latest Rajasthan Administrative Service Rules, government pay orders and official appointment or promotion orders. Pay and promotion provisions may be amended.
