Marking Scheme and Selection Rules

  • The CBE contains 80 questions for 160 marks in 60 minutes. Each incorrect answer attracts a 0.25-mark penalty.
  • The questions are at matriculation level. The language section tests the chosen English/Hindi component.
  • NCC bonus, subject to verified eligibility, is 8 marks for C, 4.8 for B and 3.2 for A. Ex-servicemen do not receive this NCC bonus.
  • PET/PST, medical fitness and document verification are mandatory qualifying requirements.
  • The 12 October result applies minimum qualifying percentages of 30% UR, 25% OBC/EWS and 20% other categories before NCC bonus; actual shortlisting cut-offs vary.

Skill Test / Other Qualifying Stages

Stage Details
Male PET, non-Ladakh 5 km run in 24 minutes.
Female PET, non-Ladakh 1.6 km run in 8½ minutes.
Ladakh PET Male: 1.6 km in 7 minutes; female: 800 m in 5 minutes.
Physical standards General height: male 170 cm and female 157 cm; notified region/community relaxations and male chest standards also apply.
Medical/DV Follow the detailed medical standards and produce authentic eligibility, domicile and claimed bonus documents.

What the Pattern Means for Preparation

Build separate practice sessions for each tested component. A strong score in one part does not compensate for failing an independently qualifying requirement. Check whether the score is used for shortlisting, final merit or qualification before setting a target.

Use timed mocks only after checking the current subject timers. Review incorrect answers to separate knowledge gaps from avoidable calculation or reading errors. Leave time in the weekly plan for practical tests and document readiness where applicable.

Exam-Day Instructions

  • Read the admission certificate for your allotted date, reporting time, venue and permitted items.
  • Carry the required original identity and supporting documents. Follow the specified identity-verification procedure.
  • Use the official answer-key challenge window if needed; representation deadlines are separate from application deadlines.
  • Qualifying percentages and past cut-offs are not a guarantee of selection. Final allocation also depends on eligibility, vacancies and preferences.
