Overview

Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) was launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Power as a flagship scheme for rural electrification. Its main objectives are the separation of agricultural and non-agricultural feeders, and the strengthening and augmentation of sub-transmission and distribution infrastructure in rural areas, including metering. Feeder separation ensures sufficient power supply to farmers while providing round-the-clock electricity to rural households. The scheme subsumed the earlier Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and played a key role in achieving village electrification across India.

Key Features & Objectives

  • Separation of agricultural and non-agricultural feeders for better demand management.
  • Strengthening and augmentation of sub-transmission and distribution networks in rural areas.
  • Metering of feeders, distribution transformers and consumers to reduce losses.
  • Provides reliable and quality power supply to rural households and farmers.
