PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), launched in October 2021, is one of the largest pan-India schemes to strengthen healthcare infrastructure. It aims to develop capacities of health systems and institutions across the primary, secondary and tertiary levels and to prepare the country to respond effectively to current and future pandemics and disasters, in addition to the National Health Mission.
Key Features & Objectives

Strengthening primary care. Supports Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres in rural and urban areas to deliver comprehensive primary healthcare.

Critical care infrastructure. Establishes Critical Care Hospital Blocks in districts and Integrated Public Health Labs to improve diagnostics.

Disease surveillance. Sets up an IT-enabled disease surveillance system through a network of surveillance laboratories and a national institution.

Research & emergency response. Expands the National Centre for Disease Control, sets up regional centres and Bio-Safety Level III laboratories for outbreak response.

Pandemic preparedness. Builds capacity to detect, prevent and respond to public health emergencies and future pandemics.
