Important Instructions for UPSC Mains 2026

All qualified candidates must complete the following steps. The window is open from 19th June to 28th June 2026 on the UPSC official portal.

1. Submit Mains Fee: Pay Rs. 200 for Civil Services Mains 2026. Fee-exempted categories: Female / PwBD / SC / ST candidates.
2. Scribe & Assistive Device Details: Submit or update details for scribe, assistive device, and large-font question paper (if applicable).
3. Cadre Preference: Fill in your cadre preference for Civil Services Mains 2026 carefully — this step is mandatory for all qualified candidates.
4. Final Submission on Portal: Log in to upsconline.nic.in, verify all details, and submit your application. Without this step, your e-Admit Card will NOT be generated.

• Revise GS Paper 2 and GS Paper 3 topics thoroughly
• Begin in-depth study and revision of your Optional subject

2. Focus on Current Affairs — Mains 365 & Compilations

Current affairs form a critical backbone of the Mains examination, especially for GS Papers 2 and 3. This is the ideal time to build your current affairs foundation.

• Prepare concise notes from newspapers and monthly magazines
• Revise the Union Budget and Economic Survey thoroughly
• Organize important government schemes, international affairs, and editorial analyses
• Watch current affairs analysis videos for deeper understanding

3. Practice Full-Length GS Mock Tests

Regular full-length mock tests will sharpen your writing speed, improve answer structure, and reinforce content recall. Do not wait for the result to start this.

• Begin with GS Paper 2 and GS Paper 3 — current affairs are more relevant here
• Focus on answer format: a clear introduction, analytical body, and a crisp conclusion
• Attempt all-India mock test series to benchmark your performance against peers

4. Maintain a Positive Mindset
