APEDA Facilitates First Sea Export of Banganapalle Mangoes

Friday, 26 June 2026

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of premium Banganapalle mangoes from India to Singapore on 25 June 2026. The 5 metric tonne consignment was exported by Osum Food Solutions LLP.

About Banganapalle Mango

Banganapalle is a premium mango variety associated with Andhra Pradesh, also known as Benishan in some markets. It is one of the best-known Indian mango cultivars for export.

Sea Freight Advantage

The mangoes were dispatched on 11 June 2026 and reached Singapore on 24 June 2026. Sea freight in refrigerated containers maintains temperature and humidity, making it suitable for bulk horticultural exports at lower cost than air freight.

Sourcing and Certification

The fruit was sourced from Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-certified orchards in Andhra Pradesh and processed at an APEDA-recognised packhouse in Karnataka, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow. The export helped farmers realise around Rs 50 per kg.
