Two new solitary bee speciesElaphropoda triangulata and Habropoda adi — were identified in Arunachal Pradesh on 11 July 2026. The discovery was made by researchers from the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bengaluru, during the Siang Expedition, and published in the European Journal of Taxonomy.

Both species belong to the Anthophorinae subfamily of ground-nesting bees. Solitary bees do not form large colonies with a queen and workers, and many are ground-nesting pollinators that support the reproduction of flowering plants and crops. Each species is currently known from a single male specimen.

Elaphropoda triangulata was named for its triangular markings, while Habropoda adi honours the Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh forms part of the Eastern Himalayas, a region of high species diversity and endemism facing pressures from infrastructure development and land-use change.
