India unveils a national roadmap to tackle narcotics through a "Detect, Disrupt, and Destroy" approach.

The Vision Document on Drug Control (2026-2029) was launched on 26 June 2026 in New Delhi. It lays out a national roadmap for narcotics control focused on enforcement, intelligence, precursor and synthetic drug control, demand reduction, rehabilitation, capacity building, and coordination.

National Framework

Prepared through consultations with central departments and drug law enforcement agencies, the document brings narcotics supply chains, drug demand, treatment services, and rehabilitation systems under a single policy framework.

Four Strategic Pillars

The strategy rests on four pillars: Enforcement, Intelligence and Operations; Precursor and Synthetic Drug Control; Demand Reduction and Rehabilitation; and Capacity Building and Coordination — covering interdiction, investigation, prevention, treatment, and inter-agency coordination.

NCB and NCORD

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) unveiled the document at the 10th Apex-Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD). An Online Drugs Disposal Fortnight Campaign was launched to destroy over 2.09 lakh kg of seized narcotics worth about ₹6,000 crore. New NCB zonal offices were inaugurated in Jammu and Guwahati.
