INS Mahendragiri, an indigenous stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, is scheduled for commissioning on 11 July 2026 at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will preside over the ceremony. The warship was built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai, and designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau.

The frigate is part of Project 17A, a follow-on programme to the Shivalik-class frigates, comprising the Nilgiri-class stealth frigates. INS Mahendragiri is among the last frigates of the Project 17A series, which is associated with a reduced radar cross-section, modern sensors and improved combat systems.

INS Mahendragiri has more than 75% indigenous content, reflecting India's push towards self-reliance (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) in warship construction. MDL is a major public sector shipyard under the Ministry of Defence and has built several frontline naval vessels for the Indian Navy.

The frigate is named after the Mahendragiri mountain range in the Eastern Ghats and is the first Indian Naval warship to carry this name. Equipped with stealth features, modern weapons, advanced sensors and automated platform management systems, it is expected to join the Eastern Fleet for multi-dimensional warfare in the Indian Ocean Region and the wider Indo-Pacific.
